Pictures of the Day 5/7
Irene commented on how the picture of the Charles river I posted brought back some painful memories. Somehow I was reminded of the final project Ed, Chia, and I did for 6.111 Digital Lab (AKA Digital Death). It sure was painful, but the end result was very rewarding. Definitely the most time-consuming A I've ever earned. This was also the class where I had countless "hot dates" with my nerd kit.
If you think debugging code was horrible, you should try debugging crazy wires going all over the place. I remember spending most of a day debugging for one of our lab assignments (checking the wiring and signals and whatnot individually), only to find that a single broken wire was causing my entire project to fail miserably. One end of a wire was broken, after being inserted into the circuit board. It looked like it was connected, but there was actually no connection. Grrrr.... Anyway, I digress.

For our final project, we decided to build a fighting game involving Lego robots.

Our standard issue "Nerd Kits" X 4, plus 19 spindles' worth of wires, and countless nights of wiring and debugging. This is our system, allowing two players to each control a robot using a SNES controller... complete with a video status display and sound effects.

My nerd kit, which dealt with the processing of the SNES controller input and the signals to be used for controlling the robots.

Group photo. We were just happy that the project was over.
